Well on my way to work (as my G is my daily driver) the gearbox started not wanting to cooperate anymore! I am now having problems shifting in first and second! It doesn't whine or scratches anything, just refuse to go in gear and then after a couple of tries it goes in gear like nothing is wrong (not the cable I checked)! My lever has quite a lot of play from side to side (3cm at the top of the knob) and rotates around itself like 45o and if I turn it a little the gears seem to go in smoother but my mechanic seems to think that the play comes from inside the gearbox and he charges 500€ for repairs and new clutch! Did anyone had similar problems before? I am changing the lever first, I 'll go around it this weekend! Any other suggestions?

Thrust bearing mechanism not releasing correctly? Broken return spring or worn guide bushes maybe.

I'll replace the bushes first! maybe upload the process in photos!

just sounds like a selector issue to me? what is 5th and reverse like?

GR40

Fifth is like imposible to shift into while driving and reverse is little better than first! I doubt it's something inside the gearbox, it would make sence if pair of gears had gone bad but every gear other than 3rd and 4th is giving me trouble so I suspect some link on the shifter or something like that! the replacement parts I bought are prone to this type of failure as the guy at the store told me!

Sounds like worn out gearstick bushes to me.  You can buy a repair kit from gsf

easily diagnosed aswell just look under the car where the rod goes from box to shifter, i bet there is a piece of rubber half way down the rod

Found the problem and it was really just the little bolt at the link being totally unscrewed ;D! Changed the link anyways as it was a 30 second job to fit the new one and I had bought one!  I did the little plastic ball at the bottom of the lever as well ( it was really worn out) so I will post a topic on how to do the entire process with pictures!
