Polo CL to G40 - Project Snowflake
« on: August 31, 2010, 09:51:49 pm »
Some of you may know me as 'Mate' others as Etches69's girlfriend.

Forget all of that. I'm Kay :)

A few weeks ago a embarked on a wonderous adventure, i bought my first ever VW. maybe i was drunk, maybe i was hyponitsed by Thomas. Who knows, or indeed cares.

i 'downgraded' from a Fiat Coupe 16V Turbo. She was fast, she was yellow, but she was a nail so i swiftly passed her onto someone who knew no better... good luck to you sir!

So one morning i found myself buying this little gem, for the princely sum of £300. me and tom took his G all the way to Oxford (from sheffield) and then as i ragged the s**t out the poor little miss, we eventually made it home.

She was meant to be a stop gap between me and a beetle, but i just cant stop impulse buying.

oh crap, i clicked buy it now. oh hai engine!

G40 engine.
Schrick cam
GT inlet with G60 injectors
Stainless manifold
BMW 320d intercooler
R1 spec charger with rebuild receipt from Jabba sport in 2008
G40 gearbox with uprated clutch

slight problem...

its ok, we're working on it.

anyway, few bits and bobs have changed.

I have some banded steels in the back garden that want shot blasting and painting, and obviously the engine is sat gathering dust, but i hold solis in the fact the cats find it useful as a valt to get onto the little shed. so thats an upside i guess.

i also *fingers crossed* shall be expecting a stage 3 subframe soon, as i dont fancy killing myself as i drift into a lamp post, while my car bends in on itself. i would like to powder coat it pink cos im a massive girl :)

thats it really i think!

nice car mate ;)

Seriously though, it looks like a tidy shell.  Bit gutting about the charger though, have you spoke to PeteG40?  He often has a small stock of charger parts and/or chargers.

I think once we've been down to vw action and Etches has sorted his we can start on my G-to-be.

He said he was going to post me a list of all the bits i need but hes not got round to it yet, he obviously needs a bit of a poke in the right direction!

Nice seats- I've got a black carpet set you can have if you want? You'd need to take it out the car though  :P

This pink subframe business is making me feel dizzy, I need a sit down.

i do really want a black carpet...

i want to add girly touches without it being chavvy, so no 'babe on board' signs or pink wolfrace multi spokes  :-\

i want the power/performance mods pink, within reason and without going OTT. i like the fact you can see etches subframe poking out if you look at the right angles, and his is yellow. so far the subframe and rear strut brace are gonna be pink. and im toying with pink brake lines. no pink calipers though. thats horrid.

oh and we popped one of my 8" banded steels on the back yesterday too...

They need shot blasting and painting silver. also the death tyres (155 :o) need to go! oh and it is going to go a little lower

So... updates.. updates... hmmmm.
oh yes!

Wheels above... sold for 100% profit. decided 8j was alittle too much for my liking!

so i took my money and went and bought these!

Not a huge fan of the fact the white is a different shade, but maybe i'm just picky? i dunno... but im probably going to spray them myself Alpine white to match the car :)

Also the subframe is in the processes of getting sent to PPS and being replaced for the updated version FOC :) which is nice!

once it arrives, its fate is the same as the strut brace ...

Wheels will go on properly once subframe goes on and the tracking gets sorted :)

i'm scared of the cold so i havent wanted to do anything for ages... but when the weather was a little sunnier i got the spray cans out

it matches my brace from the previous post.

we then got distracted dressing the dog up

and Tom did some stripping in the bedroom

And then once we ran out of things to do to avoid working on my car... between me and Etches (im stronger than him so i undid all the tough bolts) we achieved this:

still no engine  :-\

I actually laughed out loud at that.

As usual snowflake progress has stopped to fix Toms G. :(

No engine this side of christmas tbh, but that could be a good thing... i dunno how well a G40 and snow/ice go together..
