Im getting a metal on metal grinding noise from my g40.
Im thinking its the diff.
The symptons are:
It makes the noise when stationary on around half and more lock.
Doesnt do it when driving in a staright line at any revs or braking but will do it again when getting lock on the steering.
Seems to be worse when reversing too
There is nothing catching underneath too, all driveshafts and arb etc checked

any ideas before i change the gearbox?

Thanks :)

its your steering arm on the drivers side touching the inlet manifold, mine does the same.

One cv is new and one was fine according to the garage. Will check them though. Would it be the cv joint even if the wheels are not turning?

Its not the inlet, it didnt do it before and has only come on recently but it is getting worse

I get the same as Robin, drivers side steering arm hitting the inlet manifold. WIll physically rock the engine. I am hoping a change in engine mounts may fix it. migfht be worth havung a look at that!

The noise also quickens as the revs rise. Even when stationary in neutral  ???

if it is a gearbox problem as u say best thing to do first it drop gear oil and c if it comes out a silvery colour. That would indicate that there is grinding going on inside the box. Does it drive ok bar the noise?

Yeah drives normal, no whining or anything. Gonna change the gearbox and cv's anyway now. Will see what happens
