loud idle
« on: June 14, 2010, 12:30:51 am »
rite i have a 6n with a g40, its a very loud car, was decat, but had a cat put back in as the area i live in is tight on noise, and didnt really want to get caught without a cat. it made it slightly quieter but not much, anyway since ive had the car its been super loud on idle, like you have to shout to people to hear you lol, most other loud cars are quiet on idle and loud when moving, so whys mine constantly loud, it idles at just under 10 revs and often abit over, i have a remap chip on the way which requires ignition timing setup, will this shut it up abit or not at all, sorry for the stupid post but its just bugging me abit. cheers

sounds like you need a different exhaust making for it.  the chip isnt really going to make any difference.

The powerflow I had was horribly loud so I took it off ! You could try getting them to fit another silencer or repack the one or two that you have take it to your local powerflow dealer. Alternativly you could by a new exhuast or if you want it quiter still get a turbo :p

yer its not how loud the car is it how loud it is on idle, cars are generally quiet on idle.
i was going to get a bigger backbox put on to quieten it abit but then itl be quiet in general rather than just on idle if you get me.

so you're saying it's loud at idle and not at other times?

well it can only really be the exhaust itself causing that

yer - sounds like you just need an exhaust with more boxes in it - with more baffles. it will be nothing to do with the running of the engine the noise.
