I have been to look at this g40, im partly interested in it but the mot's dont add up the 2007 one says its 186000 then the 08 mot says 110000.
I was just wondering if anyone has any info about it or used to own it??

Many thanks Jake.

hayesey

did you not ask about that mileage when you were there?  Sounds very dodgy.

The number plate looks familiar, I'm sure I've seen it.  I have a feeling it might have been owned by one of the Club-GTI people called Karen Andrews but I'm not totally sure.

Yeh i asked matey boy about the mileage and he was just acting dumb about it really, he claimed he bought the car on 110,000 and that he had never seen the mot sheet that i pulled out the folder with 186,000 on it. This is why im scepitcal of the car and him really??

Not sure what to do??

hayesey

if he can't give a good reason for it then walk away....

samg40

Yeah that doesnt sound good. At the very least he is unsure of his own cars history. I bet that 186k MOT isnt in there for the next potential owner to find. He's asking good money for it and it does look a good car. There is defo something amiss with it though I would say.

What was he like apart from that, was he generally shady?

Varley

Where abouts in Worcester was this mate? Might know the previous owner have text him to check.

hayesey

well, the V5C should show if he owned the car at the time of this MOT in 2007 and should also say who the previous owner was, I'd have asked to see the V5C.  It could be reasonably innocent, it used to be the case that people would change the mileage if they changed the engine but I don't think you can really do it anymore with the computerised MOT system.  You've probably got to assume the shell itself has over 200k on it then.

yeh he seems an alright lad, but you never know.

He just got back to me now after contacting a pervious owner and he had sold it with 140,000 on it so its definatly done 200,000 now and had the clocks changed at some point.
So i dont think its worth 2295 with no history, blowing manifold, needs new brakes/pads and mileage some where in between 180,000-200,000

The car is in a place called frome just outside worcester.

He didnt have the v5 at the time so i couldnt check  ::)

All the same i think i will be leaving this one alone there's no point in risking it.

Thanks for your comments all the same.

hayesey

hmm, dodgy mileage, no v5......run like the wind!

samg40

If it was £1300 it might have been worth the risk, but thats good money for one anyway. You could do better for that coin imo.

AlexG40

I think Hayesey is correct about the Karen Andrews thing. Well ragged and high mileage if it is. Not to say its not a good car..just pricey.

Jake G 4 0

I offered him £1200 for it considering everything maybe worth the risk and he still said he wouldn't go below £1900.

Seen this in the flesh a few years back parked up near my halls of residence. Lovely car!

Yeh I saw this at the rubbadubz meet about 2-3 weeks back, seems like a nice lad but a little optimistic on the price. In fairness though, he was saying at the time he didn't know where to price it as they're all over the place price-wise depending where you look.

Car looked alright to me but it needed what you mentioned above!
