information on manufacturer recalls

How long after a recall notice is issued will the manufacturer honour their recall notice?  I have a 2003 golf (i still have my G40 by the way) and searching the net there appears there was a recall notice issued in 2004 for a fuel leak on what is called a vaccum pump...all new to me..  anyway mine is leaking, i have tried 3 times to re seal it and you cant buy the gasket as the whole thing is bought as a unit.

A mate of mine had his pedal box done on his lupo some years after but that was a few years back too..

anyone know anymore than the very little i do?

pretty sure they'll still do a 2003 car.  When I had a 1997 6n in about 2002 it went in for the brake servo pipe recall.  just ring vw.
