Every Polo I've ever had or driven always makes like a moaning noise for a couple of seconds on start up from cold. If its always done it I wouldnt worry about it.

yeah, all mk2 and mk3 polos make that noise when cold in my experience, not sure if it's the water pump or oil pump that actually does it.

It's been so long since I've driven mine I'd forgotten about this noise on startup, my 1.3 golf used to do it as well.

I get that on startup.

I beleive its to do with the fuel pumps as when my mate started it up the noise was coming from the rear.

Just a guess but it could be the pump building up the correct pressure of fuel after startup?
