Leads andplugs
« on: December 07, 2009, 12:40:46 pm »
After replacing my thermostat housing i looked at the dizzy cap and rotary arm, man they were fuked. less than 1mm of copper on rotary arm.

Next is the leads and plugs. Now i have posted this somewhere before but i can remember.... :-\

What plugs and leads are good to go for?

Has anyone got standard plug part number or where to get them from?

With the leads, i see some people use magnecor. Worth getting the 10mm ones or staying standard?

As Rae said, I'd stick with good quality German branded HT leads and Bosch plugs.
I can't see any reason to use Magnecor or any other so called "performance" leads.

plugs are Bosch W5DPO, GSF is the best place to get them from.  They will be replaced with WR5DPO at some point which is a resistor plug should be a drop in replacement.  Or the other option is the NGK equivalent B7EV-X.  Lots of people never used to like NGK plugs in G40s but I'm currently using them in mine at 194bhp and 21psi of boost with no issues.

Just looked on gsf, there asking £53.99 inlc vat and postage.

Euro car parts are asking £45.32 incl vat and free postage.

Just incase anyone else is buying some plugs soon.

yeah plugs were pretty much exactly £40 last time I bought W5DPOs from GSF.  I guess they'll probably have gone up now though due to the euro rate.

I wouldn't mess about with any leads other than OE ones.  Seriously, all the ignition components, use standard parts as a lot of the more expensive supposed "uprated" stuff is just shite painted fancy colours.

well no, get them from GSF, they're not bosch made (neither are the ones from VW).  They'll be Beru or BBT.  Just ask for the "german made" ones.
