Altenator tensioning
« on: November 25, 2009, 06:50:49 pm »
I am going turbo looking at altenator, a bloke on eBay can do me a altenator uprated to 75amps for around £110 it will be a direct bolt on fitment of the non g40 mk 3 polo altenator, how does a non g40 altenator fit and mainly how does it tension the auxillary drive belt is it via a lever arm or actual placement of the altenator with regards to it's braket?
Does any one know how the polo mk4 altenator fits as they are around 70 amps standard and only around £30 do they use different belts and mainly how do they tension the belt.
I want 70 amps as I I tend on running quite a hefty stero plus aquamist so do need the 70 amps that I have worked out I'll need .
Thanks for any help in advance
Antony

could you not fit an alternator off a mk2 golf 1.3 carb?
i think that might work! not sure though, because of the way the alternator has an elongated hole underneath (which the bracket looks identical) with a ratchetting?toothed slider bolt.
might not work, but it might be worth looking into.
