running rich
« on: November 18, 2009, 08:18:13 pm »
hi guys, on a recent emissions test the reading on the g was 12%, so after reading a couple of posts on here i replaced the lambda sensor but when starting up you can still smell the petrol and the inside of the exhaust is blacked up.  Any ideas what to investigate next that could be causing this.

cheers grant

My car also seems to run abit lean,

How'd i go about checking the "Co Pot" pete? Mine seems to have been tampared with in the past due to missing blue cap and screwdriver marks in the black "cap?"

Thanks

have you got a de-cat pipe? emissions will be higher without a cat

My Co2 Pot was 508 Ohms (think i done it correctly)...

So is this bad? Does this mean it is running richer then it should? How do i solve it?

Thanks

Ps: Sorry for a little thread hijack, posted here since both have same problem

you need to take it to a garage and put it on a gas analyser to set the co pot.  500ohms is a bit low though, I usually set it more like 600-650ohms as a base setting.

Would this mean its running rich or lean? having low ohms on my pot
