exhaust blowing

Its nearing MOT time for the G40 and since ive built the car back up, ive changed the exhaust set up quite a bit.
Its running a 4 branch, no cat, straight through middle section and Remus back box.
Ive had to sleave the connections between 4 branch and middle and middle to back box but the sleaves inside diameter is just a little bit wider than the other pipes outside diameter so its blowing at these joints.

Now Ive just thrown it together at the moment so I can get it MOT'd then im gonna get it sorted properly by a specialist stainless exhaust company so dont want to fork out at the moment to do it again when i get it sorted properly.

My question is, if I use some left over heat wrap to wrap the joints to stop them blowing, is this likely to fail MOT??

I don't think heat wrap will do anything dude, it wont create a gas tight seal.  Get some high temp silicon exhaust sealer.  Dan Barnes was telling me about a make of it he bought but I can't remember what make it was. But I'd imagine any high temp exhaust silicon sealer will do the job for the time being.

by the way, did that alternator bracket spacer thingy arrive in the end?

camone

Na it never turned up mate. Ended up making my own spacer out bits and bobs I nicked out the work.

I might have to cut some pipe to try and wedge between the two joins and try the exhaust silicone stuff then

I drove the car up the street and back today for the first time, it needs the brakes bleeding again defo or maybe thats just polo brakes  :D, its been so long since ive drove one.

Another thing I forgot was how heavy cars without power steering are especially with 7"s on the front. Bloody hell

hayesey

just how much difference is there between the pipe sizes?

I can't believe that thing never arrived!  bloody royal fail tossers....

camone

The 4 branch and other pipe has an outside diameter of 45mm and the sleeves have an inside of about 48mm so about 1.5 mm gap all round

hayesey

ah quite a gap then.  Yeah it might be best to get some 1.5mm sheet and make some sleeves to go in the gap, then seal it with high temp silicon.  Pikey but it'll prob get you through an mot.

hayesey

or the other option is to get the welder out.

you'd have to make something to fill that gap as exhaust paste of any description may just blow back out the gap.
