yeah does look nice, some more pics would be good!

also you might want to edit the description, and remove the weblink to the g40 site, ebay will pull your auction if you dont do it quick!

they see it as dodging ebay fees!

ive copied and pasted the contents incase they do, as you wont be able to access it then:

Hello and welcome to my auction.

It is with massive regret that I am selling my Polo G40. I’d imagine that if you are looking at this you probably know about G40s, but if not please check out the Polo G40 club at www.polog40.co.uk for some impartial advice.

According to the club only approx 570 Right-Hand Drive G40s were imported. Probably only half of those remain and few in this colour so she is a rare sight on the roads today.

She was registered by Volkswagen on 1st March 1993 as K895 CBD and was used as a demo car by Windrush of Slough. My friend bought her from Windrush 9 months later in December 1993 with 10k on the clock and immediately changed the oil for Mobil 1, a habit I've kept to this day.

After much lusting I bought the G40 off my friend two years later in November 1995 showing 23k. I ran her as my daily driver for 5 years until I moved back to the North East in 2000 and semi-mothballed her at 82k. I brought her out of hibernation earlier this year and have only done just over 1000 miles since then and so she is now showing a genuine 83k on the clock.

The spec is totally original apart from clear side repeaters and being de-badged to avoid unwelcome attention. The original badges and front grille are included in the sale.

The cherished plate A13 VVV (A 1.3 VW) will also be included in the sale if the final price goes above £1750. Anything below this and I will remove the plate for sale by a separate auction. Should this happen the DVLA may wish to inspect the car as part of the plate transfer process so please be aware that this may delay the availability to collect.

Apologies for the single photo but the weather has been awful recently so I’m hoping to get some new photos taken & uploaded in the next day or two.

Service History & Mechanical Condition

In the first few years my friend had her serviced at various VW dealers, however I’ve always serviced her myself apart from a few specialist jobs and have kept a full record of everything done with plenty of receipts.  Apart from the usual service items the only “major” parts replaced are as follows –

Mar 96 – Brake Pressure Regulator & Master Cylinder
Sep 96 – Distributor (due to Hall Sensor fault)
Jun 97 – Cam Belt & Supercharger Belts @ 46k
Jun 05 – Radiator, Rear Wheel Bearings and Brake Cylinders.
Nov 08 - Brake Cylinders (again! they had seized up)

The engine, gearbox, clutch, suspension, etc. are all original.

The supercharger has never been serviced. As the car is unmodified, has never been driven hard from cold and has always had Mobil 1 oil changes every 10,000 miles I’ve never felt it necessary.

G40 brakes were never great to begin with and I replaced both the rear wheel cylinders for the MOT in 2008. The brakes were good enough to pass the test again this year but in my opinion they could do with bleeding again.

A few years ago I stripped down a 93 Polo coupe for spares so there are a few boxes of bits to go with the car if the winner wants them.

Condition – Exterior

Overall the car is in extremely good condition for 16 years old. I wish I could say she is mint but having spent time on Britain’s decaying roads she does have stone chips and the odd dent.

I’ve always been meticulous about cleaning the wheel arches and the area behind the fuel filler flap so there are none of the usual rust problems in these areas.

The front fog lights are fully intact (they are always prone to damage and are unique to the G40) and the original BBS 13” alloys are also very good with minimal scuffing.

Condition – Interior

The original interior, unique to the G40, is in very good condition. Having been garaged most of its life the upholstery hasn’t faded to grey like most. The drivers seat is excellent with minimal wear to the bolster. There are no cuts, tears, burns or stains. The car has never been smoked in (the cigar lighter is unused) and has never had any pets or children in it.

The parcel shelf currently fitted is from a Mk2 Polo with a pair of good quality Kenwood speakers, however the original uncut parcel shelf is included in the sale along with one of the few optional extras available for the G40 – a cassette rack

Summary

G40s do turn up on eBay now and then, however many have been modified or are “made up” from standard Polos with the parts transferred from a written-off G40. If you want 15” rims, an Eaton conversion and Nitrous please look elsewhere. If you want a genuine UK unmolested low mileage G40 to cherish then this may be the car for you.

If you win with a bid of over £1750 you also get the bonus of a cool VW plate which has to be worth at least £500 on its own.

I’ve done my best to describe this car and any minor faults it has, but I’m human and am not perfect either. Photos are not substitute for viewing in person. As you are bidding to buy I would strongly advise you come and look first - you won’t be disappointed.

I won’t be ending the auction early so please don’t ask.

I’m not looking for a part-exchange under any circumstances.

If you want to ask anything about the car (other than “wil u take £500 for it m8”) please use the “Ask a question” link.

Thanks and good luck!

My Terms & Conditions
