hi all,
i removed my throttle body today to exchange it for a 51mm on and firstly i wondered if any one could tell by look at the photo below weather ive got a g40 inlet manifold a gt inlet manifold or either of them wich have been ported ??

secondly on the inside of the inlet manifold there is a sticky brown substance is this normal or does it mean i have been running to rich or to lean ?? or that somthing is leaking that shouldnt?? it is shown in the photo below

i also found a little bit of thick black oil in the boost pipe that was connected to the throtle body inlet also shown in the photo below is this normal ?

Finally how come there is a pipe connected to the black plast boost pipe that joins to the throtle body inlet, it is located about halfway down it on the bottom and looks to go onto the inlet manifold what purpose does this pipe have?
sorry if i asked any dumb questions im still quite new to this so please excuse me all help appreciated

Regards - Antony

dont like to answer my own posts but i have relised that this is a g40 inlet manifold as it has the vacum pip on the side not on the right hand edge of the runner , think it is ported a lil though the rest of my questions still stand though please let fill me in if you know the answears !!

G40supercharged

Pipe coming out of the plastic boost pipe is the auxilliary air supply. This goes through the auxillary air valve (AKA 'idle stabilisation valve' even though it isn't one) and into the manifold. It allows extra air into the engine (bypassing the throttle) during warm up. When the car is warm the valve should be closed and no air goes down there. There is a smaller air bypass in the throttle which is used for normal idle. Idle stabilisation is done by the ECU varying the engine timing. The auxillary air valve has no ECU control.

G40supercharged

The manifold inlet is that shape as it's also used for other throttle bodies that have 2 stage inlet (e.g. NZ). The G40 throttle body just blanks off the spare part of the opening. Unless there is evidence of smoothing round there it's unlikely thats been ported. You might need to open it out a bit if its less than 51mm.

Charger is possibly leaking a bit of oil; if you have a separate catch tank i.e. no boost return then it can't come from anywhere else. Possibly still there from before breather was removed; the intercooler collects oil.
