1W or 1341
« on: October 20, 2009, 08:26:49 pm »
Hello just wandering if i could get some info / views on what to do. We have got a damaged py block and internals and possible 1w block. Looking to create something using a g60 charger or maybe eaton dont really want to go down the turbo route. With a full lighten and balanced bottom end. If we were to go with 1w would a g60 charger benefit a bit of porting also going to be running big valve head and cam. Which block would be better for big power gains?

I've only ever seen one 1W on a rolling road and it only made 165bhp.  I'd like to see what one of those engines can make with a decent size turbo on it though, or a g60 blower too perhaps.

one was made in germany a while back with a g60 blower on it, that didnt make great power too.
its all in the mapping.

there's a few people with 1Ws at the moment, but I think in general they just have the g40 g-lader on them and I just don't think they'll make big power on those engines with such a small blower.  I've still only seen one go on a rolling road.

aye certainly is all in the mapping!  a properly done 1W with a decent size turbo would be interesting to see.

It was Sally Healey who did the 1W G60. 1W block and crank and custom sized forged pistons making it a 1.5.

yeah I know about that one, Sally is a friend of mine. It was never properly finished though, didnt stay in a car very long and I dont think they ever really used it with a g60 blower on it.  Had a g40 one on when I last saw it.  I think her & rob still plan on sorting it out but as it stands, it never went on a rolling road.

the one that made 165bhp what mods did it have?? whats the mapping like for 1341s are they better theses days? Most likly to get it mapped on a dyno. Has nicks mk2 1.5 been on the rollers? say if we went 1341 with bvh and cam would it benfit running the 40 chager or the 60 with the right mapping?

t'was mine that made that at the last RR day. With the intake mods I'm running, a full blend G40 charger and PSD toothies boost pressure is at about 7psi.

All other things being equal I can't see how 1473cc would make less than a 1341cc, although I'm sure people will have a view. My understanding is that the benefit is mainly in the torque output rather than peak power.

As suggested I accept a G40 blower isn't ideal with this set up, but I ain't made of money! All good things come to those who wait...

Obviously a well set up 1341 could easily outpower a 1473 as demonstrated when Robins only made 1bhp less than mine last time out after Andy worked his magic - hoping a few tweaks on mine will yield a few gains but we'll see.

Current plan is to put a G60 on it over the winter when I've got the coin - then we'll see where we're at.

I'll be at the RR day on sat where advice and/or feedback is more than welcome! Should make the same as last year though i'd imagine.
