hi
putting a gt cam in my t40 weekend
thing is my cousin put on in his 1.3 and timed it up to the marks and he bent 4 valves
how do you time it up properly
cheers ???

it should be just timed up to the stock timing marks.  Not sure what your cousin did wrong but you shouldn't be bending valves with it timed up right.

You need to be a bit careful about the TDC mark on the bottom pulley.  I assume you have swapped the bottom pulley for a non-g40 one?  What have you done about the timing pointer as this is different on a g40 to the others.  On mine I just bent the marker up a bit to allow the pulley to fit and then re-did the TDC marks using a dial gauge on top of the piston.

While installing the cam, turn the crank away from TDC slightly so that all pistons are roughly half way down the bores, that way you dont risk damaging valves while tightening the camshaft down into the head, then line the cam pulley timing mark up and then carefully bring the crank back to TDC.  Put the belt on and turn the engine over by hand 5 or so times, rechecking the timing marks each time it's done a full rotation.

i was thinking that,im running to g40 twin belt bottom pulley and a v belt
il get a dial gauge and get TDC marked up s there is two marking on the g40 pulley?
cheers ;D

if you use a standard g40 pulley then the existing tdc mark should be ok.  although checking does no harm.
