hi, I'm using g40 pistons in a gt block, are gt and g40 piston rings the same, or do i need a specific type
thanks

They are different. 3F rings are the same as AAU. PY rings are the same as AAV, NZ and the rest of the Mk 3 Polo petrol engines.

The reason probably will be different thickness rings.

thats interesting because ive asked the exact same question on club polo and ive been told there the same
thanks

GT rings definitely arent the same a g40 ones, you need g40 ones to fit g40 pistons.  Fortunately g40 ones are the same as the other 1272cc mk3 engines.  Bizarrely GSF list the same rings for a GT engine but they aren't right.

thanks, how much are a set of rings ussually?

is gsf have any left they should be about £35, something like £100 from vw

Dan

GSF stopped selling them a while back. You probabaly got the last ones Hayesey.

well when I bought some I only paid £8 for the set because they said they only had two sets left and were selling them off.  But since then I know other people on here seem to have bought them from GSF. So I would still try them.

thanks for the advice everybody, found this company and the prices seem pretty reasonable, anybody dealt with them before?
