gt inlet manifold porting

hi there ive seen a ported gt inlet manifold on sale on the classifieds on club polo and i asked the seller and he said he has done the porting at home and has only midly opened up the inlet and out let, is porting an inletmanifold a precise sience and best left to pro's or is it somehting that is as simple as just removing some material to let more air/fuel mixture through? if it can only realy be done effectivley by porfesionals where can i get it done ?? thanks again )

Alright mate, just to let you know i went to get my inlet ported last week and the guy said you shouldnt do it as the texture on the inside helps the air/fuel mix correctly.

Porting is easy to do, but hard to perfect. Taking as much material as possible does not nessecarily mean the best airflow.....

so.... in summary the best thing to do is just not port it at all unless any one knows somone who is particularly good at porting inlet manifolds??

My take on it would be if you are modifying an engine to chase every last bhp then pay someone to do it. On the other hand if you are a good with an air tool or likes and be happy with some power gains, then have a go yourself

pleanty of bleeding fingers too with all that rubbing with emery cloth, gotta get it as smooth as glass as the air travels accross it mush quicker without any turbulance.

you need turbulance so air and fuel mix properly!!!

as far as i know you still need a mixing rough effect. Never seen a ported inlet mirror polished inside. Or throttle body

Surely it doesnt matter about the TB, well on a G40 anyway cause its before the fuel gets injected, and if the inlet mani has texture anyway after the TB it wont make a diff?

i polished mine up as i de-wedged it, same with the boost return separator (bit on top of the TB)

I'm not an expert, but I'm sure were not talking a difference of many horse powers from a badly ported manifold or any inlet part, just refinement surely?

right ok so now from what i can gather i can have a go at porting my gt inlet a lil bit and it definantly wont make it any worse, if i only fettle it down a lil bit, i just thought whilst i had it off if there was any thing i could do to open it up a lil it might help or am i just best of leaving it alone then

?
