I hear this will raise th CR but will it do so too much which will cause det?

its is a widely carried out swap and one that wont cause any problems!!!

will the valves not foul on the pistons though as the difference of the two headgaskets is something like 1.2mm??

Also just been looking at the pistons and on each one theres a massive valve shaped indentation about 1mm deep with burrs around the edges however none of the valves are bent and the pistons are consistantly carbon'd up.

It's easy to say it's a widely carried out  swap that causes no problems, which strictly isn't true.

You are increasing the CR which may lead to problems with det, pre-ignition etc. The deck of the block needs to be obsolutly spot on when you fit a thin metal HG, possibly needing a skim if it's not spot on.

Sounds like your valves (or previous valves) have hit the pistons in the past. There are no valve reliefs in std G40 pistons. It sounds odd that each one has indents in them, are you sure they aren't NZ, 3F or other ones ?

Robin

Det wise you'll certainly have issues if you are getting det at the moment, as it will make it worse.

if you not got det right now then you could be fine depending on how close to det you are right now.

got a standard gasket in the end so hopefully that should be ok. now trying to time the engine up now though. it a toothed pully kit on. are the timing marks those two bits of platstic on the top (cam pully) and bottom (bottom pully) where should the mark be on the toothed pully.
