dead supercharger?
« on: September 19, 2009, 01:26:39 pm »
doing my headgasket today i have taken off the supercharger to find it contains a lot of oil. When i removed the pulley the shaft also seemed to move :(
The pulley has been wearing on the charger as it as been moving back and forth with the shaft.
Taking off the cover on the back to expose the belt in the charger, the main shaft seal has a lot of oil around it as well.

Is this repairable or is it time for a new charger?

if yr shaft moves, sounds like yr bearings are worn. the oil sounds like seals aren't in good nick either.

only way to know is to get it apart and have a look really.

if your seal area's are badly worn on the shaft you can get them metal sprayed for about £220 but dont get the bearing areas done as they can start to break up and cause damage. i got mine done about 15k ago running 65mm pully and healthy amount of death :). never had any problems with the charger, will be giving it a service this winter when its off the road.
