No dash board lights
« on: September 02, 2009, 02:12:37 pm »
Drove my car for the 1st time last week at night and i have no dash board lights at all. I have all the centre lights where the fan switch is etc. Loose wire or not connected up properly?

Plus the fan only works on the top level. Has anyone experienced that before?

possibly the bulbs have gone in the clocks.  Or do you mean no warning lights, no indicator lights etc...? (I assumed you meant the green back lights).

The heater resistor pack on top of the blower under the bonnet has broken, you need a new one.  Very common problem, don't think they are expensive to buy from VW.

Yeah the green lights is wat i ment. Will chech them. Will check the resistor.

Do g40's have a low fuel light? Just my gauge is a little inacurate sometimes and i ran out of fuel while travelling to the petrol station. it was reading just under a gallon, on a slight slope, then next minute no power. Was funny though.

Yeah I was going to say about the dial. Will be a nice easy fix if it is that!

is it just the speedo or every switch light???

if its the former - its the bulbs int he clocks, the latter would suggest a fuse.

Speedo, rev, fuel all them. All other swith lights are fine. The fuses are in the engine bay? cause when i did check them they all seem fine. Will get a good look at weekend and check the bulbs.

I have the same problem. All my fuses are fine on the bottom except for one that is missing (Top Left) Anyone have a fuse board layout? Im waiting for my haynes manual to arrive but it'll probably take ages becuse of this postal strike!

i think the number plate lights run off the same fuse, my old gt used to always blow the fuse for the dash lights.

Was the bulbs that had gone, as today i took the entire dash board out with my mate. Managed to put it back in better as who ever had done it before did a crap job of it. Also found loads of wire, and i mean loads. Just wrapped up and was everywhere, only to find that it was wiring for an alarm. There was spliced wires everywhere and all of it was not being used, so that all came out. Most of the wires sat in the top of the engine bay tucked down the side of the washer resivoir.

Just wondering, did G40's ever come with central locking? Just as the passenger door has wires in it that go into the car, again cut up and spliced but the drivers just had about 6 wires laying inside not connected up to anything. Any ideas?
