i recently read in car magazine that vw will be bringing out an "R" version of the 2010 model,
it will have the 1.4 tfsi engine giving out around 195bhp over the usual 160 ish these engines produce,
i guess in essence u could call this a new version of the g40?

sounds slightly interesting.  Problem is they'll probably stifle it with loads of gubbins like air con and electric everything.  Now if they made a "Cup" version which was lightweight (or at least as lightweight as possible with the size of new polos!).  ;D  Although it'd really have to be something special to compete with the current similar track-oriented offerings from Renault

195bhp but it'll weigh near on a ton which will make it poo slow anyway. now whip the engine out and stick it in a mk3 chassis  ::)

Near on a ton? It'll be around 1200kg I reckon, judging by the new Ibiza Cupra (same engine, same chassis, 180bhp).

That said, the new Ibiza Cupra is mint. I got to drive it last week, and it's a proper giggle. 195bhp in a modern chassis will be wicked, and I reckon it's only a remap and light mods away from 250bhp, but with the advantage of cornering and stopping properly.
