Removing insert from strut

anyone know how to get part number 2 off the strut to remove the damper insert?  I haven't taken my strut off yet but I want to be prepared as it is looking a bit crusty under there!!

it;s just screwed on.  I clamp the strut in a vice and then use a very large pair of grips to get hold of it and undo it.  Lots of WD40 and heat from a blow torch helps if it's seized up.

i used a pipe wrench on them, it works 9 times out of 10

good idea, I will arm myself with every possible tool before removing the strut and lock myself in the garage until they're done!

I've got a set of Gmax 40mm lowering springs to go on (to replace the cut down standard springs that are on) a pair of front Gmax dampers (currently leaking oil) (the rears are fairly recent and ok) a powerflex set of bushes for the front. An upper strut brace and I am going to have a go at making a lower strut brace.

hopefully all this should improve the handling as the 4 branch, chip, filter and 65mm pulley are going on at the moment also!

Thats how i do it to!

Quotewire brush, lots of WD / penetrating oil get it as clean as you can, should unscrew with mole grips

your need some big mole grips!
