Evening all,

Just done the headgasket on the polo and the temperature warning light is flashing on the instrument panel.

I have checked the thermostat and it is opening up, so i assume the water is circulating.(new water pump has been installed)

The light has stopped flashing after a drive but it is erratic.

Does the light signify anything else? also is the light controlled by the sensor on the expansion tank?

thank you.

Dan

The light is the water level for the header tank. I assume the level is ok ?

vikash

Yup the water level is fine...

I think the oil in the water system has messed up a lot of the sensors in the car. Car is working fine just that the light sensor flashes. I will change the expansion tank.

Thank you

I had this problem after the winter lay-up.Try cleaning the contacts on the header tank with switch cleaner first.

Robin

sometimes it could be due to the warning light fault on the clocks, i had this problem a while back and changing the expansion tank made no difference but changing the clocks did.

all sorted!! changed the tank and all was good..

When headgasket goes and oil mixes into the water system it is a annoying job trying to get the oil out..Also the sensors are coated in oil.

But all has been cleaned and headgasket done, so the car is back on the road to enjoy some sun (or rain as the case is at the moment).

Time to fit the subframe and mintex 1144 pads.  :)

Thank you for the help
