oil buzzer comes on when hitting bumps
« on: July 11, 2009, 08:21:11 pm »
i definately have good oil pressure now as i sorted the no pressure problem but when driving now i get the oil pressure buzzer coming on and flashing usually after hitting a small bump etc in the road. just randomly comes on and sometimes stays on for a good while, but engine is running awesome and there is definate pressure at the sensors as i have loosened the banjo near the sensor and it pisses out with oil.

i been told this could be a dodgy wire or sensor or maybe dodgy earth

has anyone ever had this before, and could i be getting pressure which is to high

another person has told me that it could be that its a different oil than usual, its halvaline 10w40 semi synthetic, i usually use syntha silver quantum but only using this for a couple of hundred miles. car drives and sounds great now. just have an issue with this poxy loud buzzer that really is annoying me

have you got an oil pressure gauge on it?

well if I were you I'd find one.  the thread is just m10x1mm not exactly an uncommon thread for such things.

actually i just managed to find one i picked up the other week but lost it

fitted it instead of the sensor and it says 70 psi or 5 bar

this sounds a little high

what should it be?

sounds ok, pressure will depend on temp and rpm

as long as it never goes below about 20psi then you're ok

i was a little worried that the pressure was to high

this reading was taken at idle

if this pressure is ok do you think its safe to drive even though the buzzer goes off
im getting new spade connectors tomorrow as one is loose and the other needs a new spade. hoping this is the problem

other than that going to start looking at breaks in cable maybe or dodgy sensor

just keep an eye on the gauge when driving and the buzzer goes off.  It'll go off if the pressure goes very low and also if it gets much above 100psi (the pressure relief valve should open at roughly 100)

where is the pressure relief valve anyway

i linked the gauge up in the engine bay just to check the pressure on idle, i will have to figure out a way of linking it up so i can see it inside the car when driving. any ideas which is best way of doing this and where is best orifice to have it coming from? i do have a m10x1 tee piece here which i could always use to branch it off if need be

I assume it's a mechanical gauge then?  I have a stainless braided hose which goes behind the dash.  the relief valve is part of the oil pump pickup

the gauge was from my old works when i worked in a hydraulics company. a mate there gave it to me the other week.

where do you have the stainless hose linked to?

i would assume one of the holes where the sensors fit, if so how have you joined onto these or is there a better point on the engine to take the oil pressure from

yes one of the sensor holes, use a t-piece, you can buy them on ebay.

i secured the spade connector a little better earlier as it was slightly loose and it hasnt gone off since. done 10miles, where before it was going off within 10 feet
