noise form passenger side

Problem with my polo g40 when i turn the ignition off! strange noise, can anyone help?

1. started the engine and left it running for 5mins= no noise when I turn the engine off.
2. very short drive, 25metres =no noise when I turn the engine off.
3. Drive the car for a mile and turn the engine off = noise that its defiantly coming from the gearbox (had it on a ramp)
4. drive the car for a mile and turn the engine off with clutch down= noise agian

Its a short clonk that lasts a second

Its a low mileage g40 that hasnt been driven hard, has anyone got any ideas? Its drives fine through all the gears and pulls as normal.

someone on clubpolo said it could be the starter, but would it not do it all the time?
