Replacement fan - will it work with my temp sensor?

Further on from my cooling problems post a month or two back, I'm hoping to get around to getting a suitable fan for the G as the standard one just doesn't cool the coolant enough. Even on full fan speed, the temperature will creep up to dangerous levels when travelling under 40mph.

I'm looking at something a bit like this http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=PCTPF0711B I'm going to get the biggest one I can physically fit. What I was wondering is, will my current temperature sensor fan switch that feeds the current fan be compatible with a non-OEM one? Does it just adjust the voltage going to the fan accordingly, or is there some kind of special switch there?

hmm, something not right there mate.  I've just got a bog standard polo rad on mine at the moment with the turbo and it's managing to keep temps in check, never really goes above 90.  This includes motorway driving, sitting idling for a long time when we were mapping the idle last week.  And some ragging as well.

I think what you are trying to do will be a workaround some other underlying problem.  How old is the radiator you have on there?

As for fitted an aftermarket fan, it'll still be 12v so that's not an issue.  But I think replacing the fan isn't the solution.

The rad is 5 years old - got replaced when the engine was rebuilt and done about 8-10k since. However, ever since the engine was rebuilt following my piston meltage, the power was upped to 180bhp and the fan has strugged to keep the temperature down ever since. Oh, I have a bog standard mk2 rad btw - not a G40 one...
