Crazy stuff! What is it based on? Diesel Mk3 engine with a G40 I assume?

1.4D G40  :)

Complete project description: here

Pictures taken last Sunday:

G-spot

Great idea in the age of soaring fuel costs, though to be honest I would have built it with a G60 charger as you don't need to worry to much about the high rpm issues of the larger charger, and I'm sure it'll be able of pulling around 1 bar from about 1.5k on a small capacity engine even with standard pullies.  LOL  then I guess the poor old drive train would certainly suffer. :scyth:

It's been on a rolling road at the Polo Club Danmark 2008 meet:

Output:

74bhp and 92lbs/ft torque, it's not exactly a tyre shredder then.

Dennis@polo86c.nl

Well, it aint that bad:

original 1.4 D: 48 BHP / 85 Nm
1.4D G40: 73 BHP / 126 Nm

Horesepower and torque both gained by 50%!
Just like normal G40 engine vs. 75 BHP GT-engine.

Mind you, this is still with unmodified dieselpump and stock charger-pulley.
There is more power to come...  :scyth:

I heard the original G40 idea came for putting a diesel in a small car... True?
1st Post!

(1 1/2 years on and already 2 polo's down, 3rd just rebuilt and brand new coat of Tonado Red!)

Shout to Leicester Massive...

VW themselves have build a diesel with G-lader already, but that was a couple of years after the first generation G40's were built.

See: here

PS: I've got a tornado red Mk3 G40 too  :)

Yeah, but a Polo GT has 75bhp and 73lbs/ft as standard, is capable of more than 40mpg and you get no diesel clatter. Not to mention, much less work.

I do admire the work, but it's not really been a worthwhile exercise. If it was producing 90bhp and 150lbs/ft torque it might at least be worth it over a GT.

Well done mate... Nice job...
Improvising and succeding is the best feeling in the world...! :D

Dennis@polo86c.nl

It still does around 56 MPG, ond vegetable oil  :!:
