Thinking of buying a G

Im thinking of buying a G40 in the next few months. But i'd like to know a little bit more about them and this seems like the best place to ask.

Firstly, what kind of fuel economy do standard'ish ones get?
How often do the superchargers need rebuilding with standard and 68mm pulleys?
What are the most common problems/expenses?

std g's get low to mid 30s for mpg with mixed driving

chargers need rebuilding from about 20-25k ragged pullied ones to about 35-40 for standard ones.

Same as any old polo really - shocks/brakes/fuel pumps/electrical problems. All doable by a normal home mechanic. Bodies are starting to rust more now so try and find a tidyish body one is my advice. Gearboxes are also a weak point for high bhp cars and aren't cheap to rebuild or easily availaboe secondhand

I currently drive a mk3 Polo Genesis (which has had its fair share of Polo problems) and I am restoring a mk2 Golf GTI which I am thinking of selling to fund a G40. Cheers for the info Pete.
