my spark plugs are due for renewal soon and i want to know which ones people use.  my car is fitted with super 4s at the moment, like these ones;

but what do you lot recommend using?  my car is pretty much std bar an exhaust and thats how i plan on keeping it, although i might consider running a smaller pulley and matching jabbasport chip at some point.

They aren't the right plugs for a G40.  Use Bosch W5DP0 (or WR5DP0 which is the resistor version that's replacing the non-resistor version).

jonboy

what makes them wrong? ???
When i bought the ones fitted in the car at the mo, the guide book listed them as being suitable for the g40 (otherwise I wouldnt have bought them!).  Is it gonna do any harm?

Alexiskayak_7

W5DP0 are platinum- colder plugs and more suitable for g40 engines
I think that these super 4s are for N/A engines (3F, ABD...)
Hayesey only said that they are not 'proper'... not that they won't work...

jonboy

obviously they work, theyve been in my car for 30k!  i wanna know what damage they could have caused cos ive effectively been miss-sold a product, if it is the cause that they are no good for the engine.

hayesey

Pretty much any spark plug will "work" but W5DP0 are the ones you want to use as they run cooler and have the right gap.  I'd guess you've not done any damage (or you'd know about it) but running hotter plugs means you could be susceptible to pre-ignition as the plug gets too hot.  Although if your car is standardish then you prob wont have a problem.

NGK do a similar plug to the W5DP0 which is BP7EVX or something like that

jonboy

yeah ive heard someone mention them before.  its a bit poor though that so many places are advertising these super 4 plugs as being suitable, when apprently they are not.
guess its a good job i drive mostly off boost.
so wheres the cheapest place to get the correct plugs from, i had a scout around the internet a found a few places that stock ngk ones, for around £20 for 4.

Dan

Just got some W5DPO's from VAG, can give you the part number if you wan't. About 10 quid each, but worth it I think.

jonboy

ordered some ngk ones for £20.  thanks for the offer though
i certainly wont be buying plugs from halfrauds again though ;D

I ran super 4's quite happily for about 40k in my old G which was only lightly modded but I've put a set in my latest G (chip, pulley, toothed belt,de-cat and big pipe)which seems quite happy too. Not looking to thrash it too often though. What is surprising though is the price of w5dpo's. Last time I priced them they were £80 a set. If I thought I could get them for a tenner a time I'd be back to them right away.

jonboy

will i fitted the ngk's the other day and what a difference its made, so much smoother.  scotsjohn; i'd highly recommend you get a set

link to very good ebay seller who can do 4 ngks for around £20 inc delivery
