Hi guys dont come on here v often so guessing most wont know unless uve seen me on Clubpolo...
I'm setting to on my rebuild today on the G, have got the following ordered from vag...

water pump
cam belt
head gasket

few other bit too and few other bits still to get... inlet/zorst gasket etc...

plan is to get the head polished.... but the big debate is whether or not to get a gt inlet and port the head to match it....

so far it only has a dewedged tb otherwise everything else is 100% standard...
the only other plan is to throw a 65mm on and then a chip to match... then wen funds provide get the charger ported n poilished too...

So main debate... GT inlet or not?!?!? and should i get the head ported whilst i'm at it?!?!?

Enlighten me guys....

GT inlet I definitely would, the stock one gets restrictive higher up the rev range under full load. Doesn't make any sense trying to increase air flow with things like small pullies, ported head etc... and then leaving a restrictive inlet manifold on.

Getting the head ported is a good idea while it's off.  Who are you planning on using and do they know what they're doing with a g40 head (have they done g40s before)?  It'll normally cost at least a couple of hundred quid so it really comes down to whether you can afford it or not.  What sort of power are you aiming for though?  If it's something like 150-160bhp then you can achieve that without touching the head.

hi mate,
trying to keep a very standard look about ti as it stands... although it is pushing me more and more everyday to go all out on it... its up to 56k now picked it up on 38k bout 2years ago with the plan to make it immaculate but dude to funds ended up being used for function over fashion sadly!!!

I would be more than happy with 150... i havent found anyone yet who i was going to use...
wasnt really planning on spending hundreds as i figured it would be a pretty simple task...
what are the complications?!
if i wasnt to port the head just polish would you still recommend a gt inlet...!?!?!
Thanks

yeah I'd still recommend a GT inlet even on a standard head it is a restriction.

porting a head is very time consuming and requires quite a lot of skill and experience to get right, plus a lot of development work using a flow bench to actually get good results.  Anyone can pick up a die grinder and start taking metal out of a head but actually taking the right amounts out of the right places is a bit of a black art.  I'd never consider trying to DIY it, well I wouldn't expect good results without doing a lot of work and practice heads.
