a delorean
« on: January 30, 2009, 10:56:13 pm »
a delorean + 300bhp sequential turbo rotary engine + porsche 6 speed transaxle = pretty good in my books.

Marty would have got away from those Libyans a damn sight easier in that!

that is sweet, and much as i love back to the future, its good to see a delorean not trying to play the back to future vibe lol

the look is awesome, i really do love the contours everything about a delorean!

Cool setup but not the same without the brushed ali bodywork - that's the best bit!

The Brushed Alloy bodywork was actually brushed Stainless Steel of 304 grade and theres one 3 miles from me in a garage showroom of wich hasn`t moved for a lot of years.
The Stainless Shell was part of its demise having had most of the other car manufacturers against it.
Mostly! backed by the goverment who wanted it closed so the FBI planted cocaine on him.

See link below.

yeah it is stainless, apparently wd40 is the best thing to wash them with!

Apparently though they still had mild steel chassis which were VERY poorly rust proofed and rotted for fun.

Plus the PRV V6 engine was a turd which only made 120bhp, apparently they originally wanted a v8 but ran out of money and had to have what they could get.  The cars are pretty slow apparently.  The chassis is based on the Lotus Espirt though so really they should have reasonable potential with the right engine in them.

I think these will be one of those cars you are better off dreaming about rather than owning.  As cool as they look I have a feeling they'll be pretty awful to drive!  Plus the stories of seriously rotten chassis are scary too.

You know what they say, you should never meet your heros!

Of course, one that can actually travel through time would be an exception to that rule.  As long as it'll still do 88mph then it'll be reet.

yeah! I remember looking round the one i mentioned local to me and when i looked underneath
i were shocked to find the mild steel shassy looking rusty fooked.
I thought they were all stainless back then.

Just think if he`d have carried on what he would be making today.
Shame he`s Dead.

Someone on another forum pointed out:

The stock Delorean was armed with a 2.8 Liter foreign engine with about 130HP.

We've successfully installed a Mazda 3-rotor rotary engine into this car!

Mazda being a well-known American car manufacturer! ::)

I remember someone saying once that if they had a DeLorean, they'd park up, get out of the car in a panic asking people what the date is!

So it is, I stand corrected. Still the best bit though!
