Anyone made their own coilovers
« on: April 25, 2017, 08:30:01 pm »
Hi

I'm looking about converting my set up into coilover conversion. I've seen the parts on rally design and wondered if anyone has tried or succeeded doing this .

Any feedback would be appreciated

Cheers Marc

yes I've done a couple now.

What I do is carefully cut through the welds on the steering arm mounts using a dremel and thin cutting discs (you'll need a lot of them!).  Then slide the arms down the tubes and weld them back on lower down.  Cut off the original bottom spring seat, slide the tube over, cut to length to suit and then weld it in place.

It's not that hard but cutting through the welds on the arms is quite time consuming.  I've seen others were a laser/waterjet cut new steering arm mount has been used.

this is the first set I made a few years ago:

They survived many a track day without any issues.

I've since made another set (which I'm yet to finish off) with the arms lower than that as I only moved them down by an inch and I want more space to fit some helper springs in.
