Newbie
« on: November 22, 2016, 06:03:10 pm »
Just like to say hi........I currently own one of the original G40 cup race cars from 1991 which was registered back in 1998 and has since competed in Hill climbs successfully by Richard Vale and Will Roberts until 2015.

I have purchased it to compete in MSA sprints in 2017 in the Longton Northern Speed championship along with the Liverpool Speed Championships in the modified production class 3b which is under 2000cc.

A few may know the car and hopefully the original race history info from its circuit days.

excellent!  Great to see another Cup G40 still being used for it's intended purpose.  Any more pictures of it?

Ah, for some reason I always thought this had a G60 blower...

Any more pics of the interior and interesting cup car bits (suspension etc)

Cheers

Will try and take some pics over the weekend, with regards to suspension it runs 50mm upside down group A Billie with the original Cup top mounts. Brakes are AP Bells and Disks with Wildwood 4 pot Callipers. Engine is a fully forged 1341cc, knife edged crank, bigger valves, schrick cam, ported, G60 injectors, GT inlet,  Plated diff with 4:4 ratio (still have original cup crown wheel and pinion). Was dyno in 2015 with 192bhp at the fly but the power/torque cross over point is incorrect so not sure how accurate it is. I will be dyno it in the next few weeks so will update then.

The history of the car: vw polo g40 cup was car 40 run by Peter Struder winning I think 2 Championships, it was then run in the VW Cup Super Coupes by Andy Boakes still as car 40 and then latter TRC Championships.

It was converted to a race/road legal car in 2006/7 (although it has never actually been on the road) by Richard Vale who campaigned the car in the Harwood speed championships every year from 2007 till 2011. It was VW Performance magazine covered in July 2011 (7 page spread) and sold to Will Roberts who again campaigned the car in the Harwood speed championships in 2012,13,14 before Richard Vale again bought it back and campaigning it in 2015/16.

This is where the story changes to me

yes, I've got a set of g60 arches in my loft at home that I bought after seeing them on pictures of this car.  Still haven't got round to doing anything with them though.
