1991 Original Polo G40 - SOLD
« on: March 28, 2016, 11:05:29 am »
Well the time has come :(

Original 1991 Mk2f Polo G40
1.3 Supercharged
152k miles

It has been brought to my attention that i need to adult a little better than i currently am, and having one silly car will aid me in doing so. So it is time to put the G40 up for sale.

I have owned the car for two years now and after some teething problems it has been an absolute dream. We have had some fantastic trips together but after getting my Golf i haven't really given it the attention i want to give it or that it deserves. I noticed the other day that despite the fact it has been winter the car has rarely been driven since Edition38 last year and has only done a couple of thousand miles since it's last MOT, if that.

I'll throw a couple of pictures up, if you like what you see. Keep reading for specs.

Some history on the car..
From what i can see in the documents i have with the car and what i have been told by previous owners, the car was a right hand drive german import owned by someone in the British military. I assume it was specced as right hand drive as the idea was always to import it back to the UK.

I purchased the car from a guy just outside Oxford. The car has previously been written off in his ownership and was purchased back from the insurance company and repaired to a very high standard as he was in the accident and repair business. During this time the complete front of the car was taken off and the engine fully rebuilt and wires tucked inside the wing to tidy the engine bay up.

Since owning the car i have had to do very little in maintenance for the car, other than normal servicing. Noteworthy mentions are a new expansion tank as the old one was looking a little tired and a new fuel tank as the old one was pretty grotty.

The car came with a ridiculous amount of history. I have a folder full of all receipts and old MOT's for the car.

Engine specs
Painted block, charger, alternator and gearbox
Full head rebuild
Replaced stem seals
Re-seated valves
6n head gasket
New cambelt and water pump
Charger rebuild by G werks
65mm pully
Jabbasport chip.
R8 Oil cap

Further engine specs include a custom induction kit ran behind the front bumper with an air filter sitting in a hole where the front fog light would be if it had them, a GT inlet mainfold, polished and dewedged throttle body and a full stainless manifold and exhaust.

Wheels
O.Z Turbos 2 piece splits
7.5x15
Powdercoated centers with a oil dripped bolts
Hand polished dishes
Nankang NSII 165/50/15

Interior
MOMO 280 wheel
Standard seats
Boost guage

Suspension
H&R Cup kit lowered about 50-60mm

Bad bits
As most cars of it's age there are some bad bits. There are a couple of dings, scratches and rust patches. The first shows a fairly big ding on the swage line and a small amount of rust under the rear window. As it may be possible to spot the exhaust it currently held on with cable ties and a pink iPhone lead, at the end of last year the rear rubbers were looking a little tired and after sitting in the garage all winter they were on their last legs, so  to prevent any issues on the way home the above was done. I will be fitting new rubbers before the car is sold.

And the second shows some scratches on the drivers door. These could be fixed fairly easily with a respray but since owning the car i haven't had the funds to have a whole respray and get all the issues sorted.

If you are after an original, solid, relatively quick G40 then this could be the car for you.

I still have the original steering wheel if the momo is not to your taste. Likewise i have a set of P slots if you are not a fan of the O.Z's. If you even wish i have some 14" alloys with non legal tyres if you wanted to trailer it. The price can be negotiated on the above.

Please note i will not sell the wheels until the car is sold.

I am looking for 4k for the car as it stands at the moment.

Viewings are welcome, the car is located in Northampton. If you have any further questions or want to see more pictures please see the link in my signature (Edition38 members), message me on here or text 0758402836zero. I work in an office so wont always be able to answer calls.

The car is advertised on Club Polo and Club G40. If you know someone who may be interested please forward the link on.

Thanks

Andy
