Catchy title.

Came home the other day, went to turn the car off pulled key out car is still running... Only way to get it off was to pull the fuel pump relay.

Diagnostics done:
When ever the fuel pump relay is plugged in i get the standard lights on the dash when the battery is on. (key not in ignition)

Checked the fuel pump relay and it seems like it is stuck open, replacement ordered an fitted but they do not seem to work as the fuel pump doesn't seem to prime and the car won't start. Although when they are plugged in i get lights on the dash again (even when the key is not in the ignition)

This leads me to believe there is a problem with the ignition switch? Am i heading down the right path here?

I'd say it was a faulty ignition switch.

Search for faulty ignition on here or similar. Saw the same problem last year sometime and it was the ignition failed.

Yeah i think it is the ignition switch as well. I have tried getting the collar off to get at it with a gear puller but no luck there is so little edge on it for anything to grab on to.

I am thinking about drilling the switch out from the back  :-[
