Where can I get a 5th gear

I know of a ATV box with a busted 2nd gear that will be getting sold soon. Depends on how quick you need this 5th gear as you could buy this box off him cheaply. Only thing is its got a quaife diff in it so will obviously want more with that in it.

I might have  a 5th gear available. I'd like to keep one as a spare but haven't inspected another bust box I have. If that is fine I'll have two so you could have my other one. I'm away for a week now though so can't look immediately unfortunately.

Thanks for the replies. I've been told the 5th gear from a gt gearbox [code: ahd] would be a good choice - any objections to this?

What is the difference between the GT gearbox and the G40 gearbox out of curiosity?

I ran an AHD box when i first bought the G. Ratios aren't great. 5th at 60mph was at 300rpm so very noisy.

Part number is the same for 5th in a ATV, AHZ, AHD CEH, CEK just checked.
Final drive causes the GT boxes to be miles out

Thanks for that man, but could you contact the guy for me as I literally spent like 20mins scrolling down through that page and couldn't see it haha. Maybe I'm blind but I just can't find it lol.

just FYI Nick_S is correct -

both the GT (AHD & CEH) gearbox and the ATV from the G40 have the same 5th gear ratio of 0.851

it's the final drive ratio in the GT box of 4.063:1 unsuitable for a G40, compared to the G40 of 3.33:1

you should download the gearbox ratios spreadsheet from club polo

there are loads of gears "shared" across other boxes so you could in theory pick and chose.

I had a GT box with the diff from a 6N DCD box and 3rd gear from an 8P box in as 4th. Shame all the 5th gears are massive

Ok so my 5th gear is apparently fine.

When I went to the guy who caused the damage, his exact words were "you need a 5th gear" so what am I supposed to get? Apparently I need a 5th gear synchronizer ring and a synchronized hub/locking collar. What an idiot! I just wasted over a month of my time searching for a 5th gear!

Are these parts I need specific to the atv box or will they be the same for any 5speed box?

Will vw still do them?
