The only things I've seen are the CAE motorsport shifters (google it).  They are a complete gear linkage and shifter though and are very expensive!

just seen some on google they look pretty flash need to call some people to get some prices do you now how much they would b roughly ?

Dan just means actually cutting the gearlever itself down. This will have no effect on the actual linkage so it won't crunch at all.

However, shortening the lever doesn't really reduce the travel by that much unless you cut it down drastically - like as in half! Then you can't comfortably reach it.

The proper way to do it is to increase the distance between the lever pivot point and the linkage rod as in the CAE Motorsport shifters. These motorsport shifters also raise the gearlever to bring it closer to the steering wheel/driver. For a road car these shifters are a bit overkill though, you don't really need such a race inspired and hence expensive setup.

They retail at around £550, so best start saving! :o

I am sure that with a bit of time and thought, a way of increasing/altering the pivot point could be acheived with a bit of work on a DIY basis. It'll be one of the things I'll be looking into for mine in the future.

thats a lot of money for just changing gear qiucker
i see how it gose i might just buy one because my one it feels like the gears are a mile apart when changing lol ;D

TBH, the standard gear lever movement isn't bad on a Polo. It may well be that your one has wear in the linkage if it's really sloppy. You can get a repair kit for the gear lever assembly and a new bush for the gearbox end of the change rod. The latter often get soaked in oil and end up more like a sponge than a firm bush. You need to adjust the linkage afterwards, but this should definately make a big improvement.

do you no if the g40 and the polo mk3 coupe are any diffrent because my car used to be a polo mk3 coupe. then it got the g40 engine and gearbox but i think that the bloke who done the coversion must have left the polo coupe gear shifter
would that make a differance  if i get the g40 gear shifter ?? ???

the shifter and linkage are no different.  Some 4 speed ones had different linkages but it wont make it shorter throw or anything.
