Maximum Safe Coolant Temperature?

Does anyone know what the maximum safe coolant temperature is for a G40? I've noticed my radiator fan switch is only a 2 speed and doesn't come on until 105-110c which strikes me as a little high.

Is this okay, or am I risking head warpage?

That's what the gauge may say. But they are often didgy. Id not worry with that,  least it kicks in!

You could change the black temp sensor and see if it makes any difference on what your gauge is showing. Its literally a 2 minute job, u just need the car to be cold. You pull the old one out and put the new one in. You will lose like 2 drops of coolant when you pull the old one out but do not worry or be hasty cause it stops after that initial couple of squirts.

Tolerance on the sensor is at least +/-10% when new, so I'd not worry too much.

Ah, I forgot to mention - I'm not using the factory gauge - its a VDO one with a separate sensor. It sits at bang on 90 when driving, then pops up to 105-110 in traffic before the fan kicks in. It then comes back down to 90 within a minute as soon as I'm moving again.

However, if you reckon that's within tolerance, I won't worry :) Thanks!

Don't worry I did for ages but I was being stupid the first fan speed kicks in at 110 ;-)

Well mine usually sits all day long at 90 but a couple of weeks now, since the hot Greek summer kicked in, I am seeing around 100 in traffic before it starts dropping. I was starting to get a bit worried and was about to add a second fan between my fmic and the radiator to see if it makes any difference. But as I can see this is reported as normal. I may still fit the second fan since I have one laying around can't see any harm to it!

Worth checking, I replaced my radiator the other day [long story] and was swapping over the old thermo-switch. When I removed it, there was a paste of little bits of rust behind it covering the entire hole where it lives. Would never have thought to have checked there in the past and I've done a few engine coolant flushes, yet it didn't clear that. My car temperature would have ran up quite a bit before the fan would come on.

Swapped the switch over into the new radiator and my temperature sits around 80 and the fan comes on when it hits just around 90. Don't know if that's the new radiator or the fact the switch is not obstructed by rusty gunk behind it?? I would have thought its the fact there's no gunk, as I've read the standard G40 would be better than any replacement radiator? Got mine from GSF.

Just thought, the little rusty bits could be bits of metal that were missed when my re-bored block was cleaned....which is quite worrying to me :S

Anyway, before my car would sit around 90 - now it sits around 80.
