On-board Cameras
« on: May 29, 2014, 07:01:04 pm »
Anybody on here use an on-board video camera to record their track days or anything....

Any recommendations for a good but cheap on-board camera?

Gopro are very good. I got the hero hd 2 which is quite cheap these days (on ebay) and its great. I would recommend getting the LCD screen though if you get that one.

The Gopro hero 3+ is ment to be very good from reviews, get the black edition one as its the best one but expensive.

I use a go pro hero 3 silver edition - it does everything you would want for a track day camera. Have a look in the photo and video section as there are a few videos I have posted up recorded using the go pro.

Get whichever one Rocket has- there's an iPhone app which you can look at the videos, watch it live etc (means you don't have to buy the LCD like I did).

Very useful when mounting in cars, as often you can't see the screen anyway  :)

I used a drift hd camera for the video you watched on my thread, it's pretty good! And only £180 new,  you can get the app like yoof says to help set it up, get a live feed to your phone screen and can control it from your phone

The ion cameras look good to, they had a stand at the world rally cross in Sunday, and alot of the drivers use them, if I was buying one I'd still go black edition as you can beat the features and quality. 60fps which the other cameras dont have the option off

Go Pro 60FPS (1080p) and 100FPS (960p)

 ;D

Also go up to 4k now apparently! Balls to editing that!

I just bought a cheapy panasonic thing off ebay for about £50. Its not too bad for the money but the stabilisation isnt probably as good as a go-pro. I can only run it in 720 as it gets jerky in 1080 but that might the card I'm using rather than the device.

I could do with a new mount for the cage, what do people use for those?

Got a big window sucker and a roll cage mount, both work fairly well.

Class 10 SD cards in mine, seems to work okay.

I'm really not into cameras or anything so I was looking through lists of stuff and hadn't a clue of what to compare haha.
Yeah I've seen those videos Robin. That's pretty bang on quality. I've searched the Go Pro 3 Silver and there are so many variations ranging from £159-£250+ :/

Is this the idea?
