Does the chip sit in this orientation or the opposite way with the grey line nearer the edge of the ECU?

you see on the chip there is a little u shaped indentation on one end that should line up with a small u shaped indentation on the chip holder (this is the general rule in electronics).

although im not sure when it comes to g40 ecu's, can't do any harm to check though :)

Think the notch goes towards the edge iirc.

thanks for the input guys

i changed the chip today for a more 'tweaked' one and now the fuel pump won't prime, changed the chip back to the original one and still doesn't work, tried the chip sat in both ways but didn't work so i am guessing i may have killed the ECU.

oh cock.

yeah i tried another relay but Yoof said the relay might not be a working one, the next plan of action is to take the ECU to Yoof's and try it on his Polo and see if it works or not, if not then a G40 ECU will be on the xmas pressie list!

If it's dead Robin give it to Yoof and I'll have a look at it. If it's just the fuel pump drive transistor it's easily fixed.

Found the problem, looks like i have killed the ECU chips, put in another chip which i got for aquamist set up and the car starts fine and runs fine.
