That's 2 second hand ones and a new one now in last couple of months. This one was a pagid cable from euro crap parts. Snapped at the pedal, the plastic sheared. What's the deal with these things? Are there no good quality cables?

Ben.lopo

Hey it may be the way you've fitted it
From Haynes manual not my words

(A) make sure the flats on the cable are located correctly on the steering gear housing .

(B) grease the cable attachment point on the pedal,
But do not grease the cable before fitting it to the steering gear housing, as there is a danger of               grease blocking the breather vent,

(C) check that the clutch operates correctly .depress the pedal several times , then pull the release leaver approximately 10mm away from the cable to check that it is free ,

Cheers lads, i didnt know about that thread.
I can't help but think the plastic end should be metal as when they go you need a jack and axle stands with you to change to the spare.

Alex

Interesting.

I've had issues with the Pagid cables too, exactly the same as Karl was showing in that thread. One of them lasted for three weeks.

metz

My latest pagid cable lasted 3 weeks Alex and went the same way last night.

I've never snapped a clutch cable fortunately (touch wood) , although the mrs has snapped 2 pagid ones from ecp! Like you said it was the plastic hook pedal side.

z3i

I've snapped 3! Same bit, the plastic bit at the end

At what point will someone decide this is a manufacturing fault..im guessing never as they just sell more cables this way?

hayesey

are you guys all using uprated clutches?

Karl's problems were with a standard clutch.

I had a couple go with an organic, and paddle clutch. Deffo a vote here for GEMO, still got one of the car now that's doing fine.

z3i

Gemo? Where does one go to get them?

grungeisdead

GSF do them, or used to anyway. Quinton Hazel ones can be had on ebay
