I'm looking for suggestions for places to get a rebore done so I can fit my wossners, preferably places people have used and know are good would be great.

I'm based in south east of England but don't mind traveling to a decent machinist.

We use an engineering shop in Bawtry near Doncaster, does all our customer engines after using him for my own and friends. Very good, had loads of VW's himself so does a lot of VAG engines and runs a race team now, he also does all of Darkside Developments engines for them too.

Drop us an e-mail if you want us to help with this - matt@onlychargeddubs.co.uk

Pete and myself have personally used Rotherham Engine Services (RES) which is located near meadowhall in Sheffield.

Decent turn around and great quality when I had my head and my block done there

I used TSR in Bridgwater, cant fault them at all. They took about 2 weeks but my head was sent off for porting etc and then fully rebuilt.

Don't they use Man in the Shed?

I know they do for their head's but not sure on blocks..

I used rotherham engine services too top blokes really helpful aswell!

Head work is deffo done by themanintheshed and im pretty sure TSR did my block as i asked for pictures of it all when they were doing it.

paulpolo

Thanks guys just what I was after.

Just want to make sure I've got this right but I bought 76mm pistons, box says pistons measure 75.93mm and the piston to bore clearance needs to be 0.07mm, so the block just needs reboring to straight 76mm?

hayesey

just give the block & pistons to the machine shop and ask them to "make these fit in that".  Don't worry about what size anything needs to be exactly.

RES - as mentioned by gaz and etches charge about £120 cash for boring and decking obviously with a hot wash after.

TSR use Thomas Hamlins in bridgewater for there machine work they are who I used for my re-bore they are really good really accurate and good friendly service, but im pretty sure any decent machine shop can do it for you.

I know they do for their head's but not sure on blocks..

Its probably worth mentioning that you want to ensure that your crank caps are bolted to the block when you take it for machining (having them bolted up helps prevent any twisting during boring).

paulpolo

Cheers for all the help, i'll bolt the crank caps back on before I take it.
