then the g60 imo. They are something like 210bhp as standard.

The limited golf was the fastest and most powerful golf from factory until the mk4 golf r32.

Some 1.8 8v g60's get to 250bhp from 160bhp so i would imagine you could get nearly 300bhp.

gaz g40

I ran my tuned g40 against a kind of tuned g60 golf an of the mark the g40 is gone but the g60 reels you in about the 100 mark. That was up a slip road though from roughly a 20mph start with me in front

Jezza-7

I think that g40's are quick off the line but not too great at top end, dont forget the g60 golf weighs 1080kgs, thats 250kg more than a polo as well.

gaz g40

Yup thats like any heavier car the polo will beat off the line. Shame we couldnt have done it from a standing start

hayesey

are you sure you mean a 16v G60?  They're very rare to say the least.

gaz g40

If your on about me haysey nope im just on about a golf 1.8 8v g60. Never sin a genuine 16v to be honest

hayesey

I meant Samuel who said he's talking about a 16v G60.  I reckon this isn't what he really means.

A normal 8v G60 is slower than a standard g40 to 60mph but beyond that the g60 will reel it in and I'd have thought taking both up to 120mph, the g60 would be in front.

z3i

Rare isn't even the word for the limited golf!

Jezza-7

G60 is slower that a gti 16v golf as well. If you get a 16v lump and supercharge it that's pretty much what the limited is.

z3i

Apart from being mechanical injection. Or 200cc bigger on later generation golf

My mate had a ~200bhp Rallye when I had my standard G40 circa 2005. never "raced" him as such but I remember being very unimpressed when I went out for a ride in it. It had Nitrous too. They sound hideous IMO, like a bagpipe that's nearly inflated......constantly. At least the G40 is a little sneeze here and there, the G60 sounded like it had something wrong with it. This was hard for me to accept too having come from Mk2 Golfs (I'd had a good few 8v GTI's by then). This was the reason my next one was a Mk2 Golf with a G40 lump in it. Loved it.

Rallye's are slow for sure! Even at 200bhp it's still going to feel heavy just because it is and the syncro didn't spread the power well.

As for the sound that made me giggle, I don't think I could tell the difference between a G40 & G60 just from noise.
