Evening all,

So i am timing up the G. And the Haynes manual is saying that the rotor arm should be pointing to where you connect lead 1 up to the distributor cap.
However mine seems to be 180 degrees out. Instead its facing 4. taking the leads as (1,3,4,2).

I am taking position 1 to be the point closest to the front of the vehicle on the distributor cap.

how should one proceed?

Ay, However when the dot on the pulley is matched up with the marker on the casing for the camshaft alignment the rotor arm isnt facing lead 1 its facing lead 4.

Jezza-7

Oh, thats odd.

And the crankshaft timing pointer is matched correctly as well?

physicsfool

From what I remember, when in the alignment for the camshaft I remember valves for pistons 2/3 being open. Does that sound right?

There is only one way to attach the camshaft right? It has a woodruff key. But I am no mechanic so happy to be proven wrong

Ensure timing marks on camshaft pulley and crankshaft pulley are both correctly aligned. Having just timing aligned will give you a 180 degrees off

OK, I lined up pistons 1 and 4 in TDC.and when looking at the trappets valves for the other 2 pistons are open.

The only issue i see is that a whole rotation on the camshaft pulley wont make a difference to the placement of the rotor arm.

PeteG40 thinks it could be a case of the dizzy simply being rotated 180 at the point it joins with the camshaft. i will drop it out this weekend and see if it has been tampered with on the back
