Well i think mine are past it, so its time to get some new

But im unsure on what to go for, as i think i will have to give in to the shite roads and get some that actually absorb shock lol

So does anyone have any personal views on what shocks are good/bad, i really arent in the mood for hard feel, i will sacrifice a bit of handling for comfort, as i drive it every day...

cheers

ive found its not really the shocks, but the springs that are hard.

Sam changed from spax shocks and springs to spax shocks and apex springs and it was a much better ride.

I changed from -60mm koni shocks and  springs to koni shocks and oem springs and the ride is softer still - even though the -60 springs werent bad

cheaper shocls like g max are usually softer.

yr welcome to try my - 60 springs - they are only 1000miles old

I'm running new OEM shocks on -40mm Eibach springs, and I've got no complaints at all. I came across the shocks on Ebay last year, which was a it strange as local VW dealer told me that I'd have to buy a complete strut.
The car had bilstiens on when I bought it, but one was leaking a bit so they had to be changed, at the time I was told they are the best shocks to buy(cos there expensive??)but to be honest it was quite a harsh ride on them with the stock springs.

supercharged spaniel

ive got an H&R cup kit i know its a full kit and you may not be after that but at only 280 quid or thereabouts its not that bad.

they are a really good piece of kit that isnt that harsh and give good all round handling.  done nearly 40 k on mine and they still feel great and are showing no signs of premature wear.  its 60/40 or 60/60 without the rear shims so have a nice stance too whilst still keeping a fairly oem look.

Max

^^Ive got the same kit as Spaniel, cant complain at all with the ride and handling.
I would say im not far off 40k on mine and it still seems sweet.

I use Bistein yellow (with big pistons(B8 series)) with stock springs and i find it quite hard, but not tiring...I have good handling especially in sharp steering...

I guess my harsh ride may have been down to the fact that they were leaking caused by rust on the piston, but yours are the same as my old ones!!

oem are complete sealed leg/hub units on all polo mk3s - vag saw fit to sell replacement shock cartridge units for all other mk3s but tell you that you have to buy a full leg unit from them.

Ah balls, perhaps I've got Gt shocks then??  Oh well, it rides good at the moment, see what its like after fitting subframe and wishbones, decide if I need a different setup then.

H&R Cup Kit ftw, works on Scottish roads so should work anywhere.
