Rear Axle
« on: May 31, 2008, 09:21:11 am »
Is there a way of squaring it up??

I've fitted my Audi wheels and all other wheels but passenger side rear are fine and dont rub... I know that its a common thing for the rear axle to sit slighly off to one side, but can it be squared up??

Any ideas?

Never taken mine off, but is it possible to gain anything by replacing the rubber mounts??
Alternativly you could elongate the holes on three mounting bolts(both sides) and maybe get some shift, but wouldn't want to do to much in case it creates other issues like it moving around by itself!!

this is true, used to align an axel if you get a whack from the rear.

4-wheel alignment is what you need. Also if its off could you measure the length end plate to end plate.

just so we can build a database with all the sizes to check if an axel is straight LOL

Could that play be the reason why some Mk3 Polos lean?

And I still live in hope that it isn't, lol!

Seriously though, I have a horrible feeling you're right. But I can't see why VW would've sold them like that. It's a real pikey job if they're selling cars with the stance of the MSC Napoli.

One day I'll find a way to sort it. As soon as I can get new suspension sorted, I'm going to take it all apart, check for bends (can't see any though) and renew everything. But I'm going to get one of those H&R kits with the adjustable rears just in case.

Stupid car.
