chip dilemanow with graphs
« on: May 13, 2009, 08:27:01 pm »
i have just rebuilt my Polo g40 engine, been off the road for nearly 3 years

just got it through MOT this week

trouble is its a different spec now to what it was when i took it off the road but i still have the custom map in itfor the old spec. i was told earlier that it might be better if i run the car on the standard chip for now until i get a suitable map.

what do you guys think?

here are the differences in the specs:-

the old spec

1308cc carl schmit pistons
eaton charger
amd 55mm pulley
large front mount
aquamist
psd big valve ported head
eaton cam
induction kit
dewedged TB
decat pipe
full stainless steel exhaust
gt inlet manifold
g60 green injectors

new spec

1308cc carl schmit pistons
stage 4 g-lader
65mm pulley
g60 green injectors
psd big valve ported head
eaton cam soon to be newman cam
standard intercooler
dewedged TB
decat pipe
full stainless exhaust system
induction kit
gt inlet manifold

can anyone recommend a good chip

been looking at performance polo chips

been looking at the Map #G40005

what you guys reckon

Don't use a standard chip; the capacity change, injectors, big valve head, cam, and gt inlet will mean the fuelling is completely wrong with a standard chip.

Chris,

If you can find out what the compression ratio is of the pistons you've got Andy has plenty of maps so should be able to put something together until you can get it custom mapped.

Who is carl schmit ? Never heard of those pistons ?

Are you sure you don't mean KolbenSchmidt ? They are the original brand fitted.

im sure they are carl schmidt

i thought that it would make it run lean with the standard chip

will running it on the eaton chip do the car any damage, seeing as im running the engine in

on my PSD receipt it says something like newman eaton spec cam

Karl Schmidt = USA division of KolbenSchmidt.  :)

If you run it on a standard chip with 250cc injectors it'll overfuel like fook.  Also you last thing you want is it running lean!  I would find out the CR of those pistons (who'd you buy them off?) and then speak to yoof & andy about knocking together a map that'll work.

i phoned about the compression ratio earlier

its aw tracksport that originally built my engine and they ordered the pistons for me, i gotta ring to speak to andy. didnt really ever want to deal with them again but i suppose i need to

here is a printout from PSD when they done the map

spark advance at middle throttle

vertical scale goes from 0 to 255

not sure what its measured in

left hand side bottom scale goes from 0 to 6500

bottom scale is load but cant make out the numbers

same scale on this but injection at part throttle

does this help anything

I'd use the PSD chip you have, it will be the map that will be nearer optimum.

I guess inlet temp wont be far off a Eaton with large intercooler with g-lader, pulley and std ic

what about the difference in the amount of boost?

at idle the revs vary between 1000-1500 rpm and sometimes cuts out, would that be the chip causing that or something else.

Idle will be something else

Amount of boost just dictates what part of the map is accessed (the 0-100 scale)

What part of map is used is determined by rpm and mapsensor voltage
