hi there i am just wondering if any one has any experience with converting a 1 litre polo in to a g40 as i have a very clean l litre polo that just needs more power and a g40 sat in a garage unable to insure without breaking the bank, + it needs a full respray. i no i can mount all the engine, drive shafts suspension arms and fuel pumps no probs. the only thing stopping me is the wiring lumes for the multipoint injection an revcounter ect. how i wuld go about changing them over

any pointers would be much apriciated

thanks

So you have a G40 engine or you want to put a G-lader on your 1litre? If its the second one, don't go there! It'll last roughly 2miles!

PeteG40

are you considering converting a 1 litre to g40 to avoid the insurance....

don't, it'll be illegal!

DKnight

and your only issue is the looms and rev counter?

worrying as those will be least of your problems, g40 looms are specific, its pull out, plug in

sell the engine and keep your car a 1 litre lol

boyzey

ye sorry i have both cars but my 1 litre is mint and the g40 is rather scruffy n is in need of a tidy up and a respray.
so ye the things that i no ov that wuld be my problem is the wiring looms and i havent a revcounter in my 1 litre.
but if any one noes of any other problems i will come across it would be apriciated

thanx again

PeteG40

wiring looms and clocks are plug and play.

just remember to insure it as a g40 conversion... (which will be similar insurance as a std g40)

vwmk3jon

yeah, expensive! lol. I hope you're older than 21 or the insurance will bum rape you without the use of KY !

boyzey

so if i was to say i was 18 it wuld mek u chuckle haha. and ye i no id have to confirme g40 on log book bt thnx aniway

PeteG40

g40 on log book ,and to insurance company - if u dont declare to insurance, then insurance is void.

vwmk3jon

18? I hope you have lots of cash and dont mind paying a silly high premium (unless you're a named driver on a policy where a parent is the main driver)

hayesey

well you can't change the car model to a g40 on the log book, you have to put the new engine code on and also the engine capacity change.

i'm 19 and i pay £1500 third party fire and theft with three points on my license, on my own policy!!! thats with kwik fit. that isnt too bad seeing as tho i had a golf 1.6 driver for my first car and payed £1700 tpft. u'd probably spend less in the long run just insuring and fixing the g40 back up mate. u'll only have endless problems with converting it!! and it would be a shame to to cut up the original g. convertions dont fetch as much  ;)

boyzey

waw kwik fit it is den lol ye thnx 4 that m8 and ye i have gone for keeping it standard g40 now 4 sure. and i am 19 in feb so will be ringing round for insurance then 4 sure

chears every one
