KARMA, what on earth is it? Good? Bad?

Suddenly noticed I've got a KARMA of 1. What's that all about?
I've noticed before that others have it but thought it might be something to do with admin? I'm abit of a div when it comes to computor terminology, is it something to do with that?
Most importantly, have I fucked up, or been good? :-\

the idea of it is that everyone starts out with a karma of zero.  Anyone can click the "applaud" or "smite" links below to increase and decrease someone's karma level.  If someone posts something that was really useful or helps someone out then you increase their karma.  Then the best contributors get a higher karma level.  It doesn't give them any extra privileges or anything, just lets everyone else know they have been helpful or not in the past.  No one on here really uses it seriously yet though, other than smiting sam because he looks like a scarecrow.

So on the face of it, I've managed to say something remotely useful just once in a 124 posts eh? Mmm, fuck it - I'm going to bed! :D
