Hi guys,

Just wanting to know if the front dampers are 'inserts' and are removable? Or if they come in a complete unit (strut included).  My G40 failed it's MOT only on the front dampers so I'm looking at my options of how to get it sorted.

Thanks Jake.

The damper comes out of the strut using either a big spanner or some mulgrips on the nut.

Might be better seeing it from this pic as it shows it as an insert.

Have seen some new inserts for sale recently, so prob Club Polo. If I find a link I will post it up.J

The original g40 dampers weren't insets but the fluid contained in the strut. I doubt there are many left that are stilling running that configuration however so yours probably does have inserts by now.

Thanks guys,

Have got the cover 'nut' numbered 2 in the picture above off, but I'm struggling to get the insert out if it even is an insert. I'll post a picture up now, if you guys could help me determine if it will come out.

Should just slide out but pic will be better.

Inserts can be a pretty tight fit, original rods just about fall out.

Thats a good thing if theyre inserts and are a real tight fit. Ive heard of a couple of 2p's being placed in the bottom of the strut to make the fit better!!!

Mine have 2p's in the bottom just to be on the safe side.
